CSM x HMP Isis: a creative education for confinement
The 2022 UAL strategy asserts ‘that everyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from, should have access to a high-quality creative education.’ The UK Government’s House of Commons Education Committee stated in a recent report that ‘education should be at the heart of the prison regime’.
As a response, from November 2022 to May 2023, we designed and delivered two pilot courses in design for textiles and fashion to a group of 8 young men held at HMP Isis in South East London, testing and developing possibilities for a high quality art and design education in confinement.
