Brief description of session and activities

A commonplace session exploring the potential of student to student platforms to unpick tricky, ‘implicit’ art school knowledge, share ideas and level the playing field.

Activity: - Brief introduction to commonplace and project context - Students will discuss their involvement in commonplace; their motivation and reasons for participation - Small group discussions to answer questions raised in introduction with whole group feedback - Closing discussion of ideas and actions to develop commonplace to support students with a wide range of educational and cultural experiences

How will students be involved in the session?

Students will present their experience of art school in relation to previous educational experience and discuss their involvement in commonplace. They will also help to facilitate the workshop activity and Q & A.

What will participants take away from the session?

To be more informed about the range of personal and educational experiences students bring that can positively or negatively (when not understood or acknowledged) affect their learning and overall experience of HE.

To recognise the value of different kinds of cultural capital and how this might be explored in practice.
