Brief description of session and activities

A workshop to introduce, explore and debate the growing role of the digital commons in education, research and cultural production and consumption. We shall be looking at the experience of institutions like MIT in the USA who have made its entire course content ‘open access’, as well as more recent (and radical) innovations like the Peer 2 Peer University and the use of ‘Badges’ to accredit non-traditional learning.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those already with experience of sharing their work openly.

How will students be involved in the session?

NA

What will participants take away from the session?

An overview of the main characteristics of the digital commons and a list of question for further enquiry and personal development.
