Encouraging and assessing students working in groups

  • Michael Spencer: Course Leader, BA Performance Design & Practice, CSM

Brief description of session and activities

Showing how the PDP course encourages and assesses students working in groups – why it’s so relevant to the subject area and why it’s good pedagogic practice for any subject area.

Drawing on my experience from the BA PDP course over the past decade I will show short DVD clips to illustrate the benefits focussing on 4 main questions: - what are the strategies for promoting and facilitating students working in groups? - how do you assess students working in groups? - why is working in groups beneficial? - how does it relate to the idea of inclusivity?

How will students be involved in the session?

Presenting with a recent graduate who represents a case study for students working in groups - ie. a pedagogic perspective and a student perspective.

What will participants take away from the session?

Ideas of how to encourage and assess students working in groups.
