Think again...

  • Michael Spencer: Course Director, BA Performance Design & Practice, CSM

Brief description of session and activities

The presentation part of the Paper will take the form of an illustrated Case Study of an industry collaboration between the BA Performance Design & Practice course and London Sinfonietta orchestra. It charts the journey from the idea and first meeting, to the outcome and the consequences/developments of that outcome. It is hoped that the presentation will be shared by the tutor initiating the collaboration, and a student who participated. It looks at how an unlikely alliance on paper, can have great benefits in expanding the remit of a course, and the opportunities for its students.

The activity will involve participants being prompted to think laterally about the kinds of organisations (not necessarily associate with the visual arts) who might provide the kind of creative collaborations which might expand the horizons of the course, and its students.

  • What are the factors determining what makes an organisation worthy approaching?
  • For the first meeting, what are the strategies for initiating a successful collaboration?

How will students be involved in the session?

Yes, one, presenting with me – see above.

What will participants take away from the session?

The participants will take away some practical starting points for initiating new industry collaborations and embedding them into the curriculum.
