Brief description of session and activities

This was the first year that Critical and Contextual Studies at London College of Communication ran the Dissertation Response Exhibition. The aim was to highlight the strengths of critical thinking and to provide a showcase for works produced in response to thinking developed during the writing of the dissertation. We organised a cross school exhibition featuring works by a selected number of students responding to themes in their dissertation through the creation of exhibition artefacts. This show ran during the final year show for the School of Design.   This was a hugely successful project, buttressed by a strong selection of mini films featuring the student designers/artists in the exhibition discussing the work they produced. The film was shot and edited by a graduating LCC student.   The project celebrated the incredible breadth and depth of activity across the school and provided an opportunity for students to showcase their work and their ideas in a professionally produced exhibition.

Will students be involved in the session? If so how?

We will be showing works by the students and playing the interviews that we filmed during installation of show. Ian and I will be speaking at the session.

What will participants take away from the session?

Cross fertilization of ideas across design and theory and how they can reinforce, and in some cases, transform works produced as a response.
