Teaching creatively: embedding diversity in your curriculum

  • Dr Michael McMillan: Associate RAS Researcher, ADS
  • Dr Kate Hatton: Head of Inclusive Education Programmes

This Workshop starts at 10:30 in room T808. Back to Parallel Session 1

Brief description of session and activities

A workshop to examine risk taking in developing the diverse curriculum. It will look at what happens when new ideas are produced and how approaches could be made to promote innovative teaching and learning around diversity at UAL.

Bring ideas from your existing course such as curriculum plans, project briefs, resource lists/bibliographies. Dr. Michael McMillan will lead an activity involving participants’ sharing of stories. The activity provides a subjective means of exploring the intersection of identity, creativity and culture. We will discuss the ways of applying similar approaches to the art and design curriculum. Some references from useful research material will be supplied.

Will students be involved in the session? If so how?

If available, students will be encouraged to attend.

What will participants take away from the session?

Knowledge of how to ‘take risks’ with the creative curriculum, particularly in embedding diversity initiatives.
