What's in a title? Reaping the practical rewards of EAP methodology

  • Sara Vaghefian: Language Development Tutor, Language Centre, Chelsea, CSM, LCC
The work of UAL Language Development (LD) Tutors teaching Course Specific Classes is underpinned by English for Academic Purposes (EAP) research focused on meeting students' specific needs (Strevens,1988). Experienced LD tutors use genre analysis (Swales, 1990) and evaluate sample student work (Wingate, 2018) to raise awareness of the features of specific academic assignments.
This talk introduces key teaching material and methods used in successful LD classes. You will learn about key EAP methodology and consider adapting the framework to the context of your course. This talk aims to highlight the value of close collaboration between LD tutors and course teams.
