From Insights, Creative Shift and Beyond: the need for diversity within creativity.

Because the world needs diversity… as much as creativity.

Underrepresented and socioeconomically disadvantaged students face many invisible barriers throughout their student journey before, during and after their creative degree. Studies have pointed to the overwhelming proportion of the creative industries being dominated by those from privileged backgrounds (Oakley et al., 2017) which brings to question, what is UAL’s current practice in equalising the imbalanced distribution of power and resources?

If ‘creativity can be used to produce more social justice in the world’ (Mould, 2018, p.8), how do we ensure it is representative of the population that it serves?
