No room? Of course there’s Room! Alice in Wonderland, Space Invaders and a Focus Group
Location: LCC, Podium Lecture-Theatre
Who claims the right to space in arts educational and institutional spaces? Who is marginalised in the claim for space? In this hybrid performance lecture/workshop, I draw on Virgina Braun & Victoria Clarke’s model of thematic analysis to reflect on my recent focus group with Year 2 Painting students at Camberwell College on how we can make our studios more inclusive. With reference to Nirmal Puwar’s Space Invaders, I will host a decolonial reading of Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter’s tea party and the dynamics of white supremacy, gender and ableism at play in that scene.
